A joint flight, provided by SouthWings, for LEAN, Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper and Atchafalaya Basinkeeper produced new pictures of the still growing sinkhole in the Bayou Corne area.
A visible oil sheen can be seen on the surface waters of the sinkhole and surrounding swamp as has been observed during every previous monitoring flight we have made over the sinkhole.
A large area of what appear to be dead cypress trees can also be seen at the edge of the sinkhole.
The nearby community, which can be seen in the top of the above photo, remains under an evacuation order that has been in effect for over 9 months.
