As a result of the Mississippi River flood of 2011, the Atchafalaya River at Morgan City crested on May 30, 2011. The Mississippi River transports 41% of the drainage from the 48 contiguous states through the state of Louisiana. Thirty percent of the Mississippi River flow is diverted to the Atchafalaya River through the Old river Control Complex.
